Site terms
Terms of Use
Proportionate terms covering informational content, code examples, intellectual property, third-party links, AI tools, and limitations for h4ck3d.
Effective date: July 19, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to h4ck3d.com (the “Site”), a personal technical blog operated by Patrick Clinger. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
These Terms are intended to be proportionate to a public personal blog. They do not create a subscription, employment, consulting, fiduciary, or other professional relationship.
Informational purpose
Copy link to section “Informational purpose”The Site shares personal perspectives, technical explanations, historical reflections, and practical examples. Content is provided for general informational and educational purposes. It is not legal, financial, investment, security, employment, medical, or other professional advice.
Technology changes quickly. A post may become incomplete, outdated, incompatible, or incorrect after publication. The Site does not promise that content is current, complete, error-free, or suitable for your situation.
Code and technical examples
Copy link to section “Code and technical examples”Code, commands, configuration, prompts, architecture sketches, and other technical examples are provided for illustration. They may omit production concerns, contain defects, rely on changing dependencies, or behave differently in your environment.
You are responsible for understanding, testing, securing, licensing, backing up, and monitoring anything you use. Review commands before running them. Never paste secrets into examples or execute unfamiliar code against important systems. Use isolated environments and qualified review when risk warrants it.
Unless a specific repository or snippet states a separate license, publication on the Site does not automatically grant an open-source license to copy an entire work. Limited use may still be allowed by applicable law.
No warranties
Copy link to section “No warranties”To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes implied warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, and security.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Limitation of liability
Copy link to section “Limitation of liability”To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Patrick will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, revenue, opportunities, goodwill, or business interruption arising from or related to the Site or reliance on its content.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the minimum amount the law permits. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limits, so portions of this section may not apply to you.
Security and responsible use
Copy link to section “Security and responsible use”Do not use the Site to attack, disrupt, probe, overload, scrape abusively, bypass access controls, introduce malware, or violate law or another person’s rights. The name “h4ck3d” refers to the builder tradition of experimenting, understanding systems, and making software—not authorization for malicious activity.
Technical security discussions are not guarantees that a system is safe. Obtain authorization before testing any system you do not own and follow applicable law and professional guidance.
Third-party sites and services
Copy link to section “Third-party sites and services”The Site may link to Cloudflare, Google, Substack, LinkedIn, source materials, software projects, or other third parties. It also offers a visitor-activated Substack signup frame presented in a modal dialog. A link or embed is provided for context or convenience and is not an endorsement or guarantee. Third parties control their content, availability, security, terms, accessibility, and privacy practices.
The Site is not responsible for third-party content or services. Review their terms and policies before relying on them or providing information.
Intellectual property and permitted use
Copy link to section “Intellectual property and permitted use”Unless otherwise stated, the Site’s original text, design, illustrations, and compilation are owned by Patrick or used with permission and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may browse, link to, print, and quote reasonable portions for commentary, teaching, or discussion with clear attribution and a link to the original page. Do not republish complete posts, remove attribution, present Site content as your own, use the Site’s identity to imply endorsement, or systematically reproduce a substantial part of the Site without permission.
Trademarks, product names, screenshots, quotations, and third-party works remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance does not imply sponsorship.
AI tools and generated imagery
Copy link to section “AI tools and generated imagery”Patrick may use AI tools while researching, building, editing, testing, or operating the Site. AI-generated illustrations may appear and are recorded or disclosed where context requires. The Site does not represent generated imagery as a photograph of a real person or event when it is not.
Use of a tool does not guarantee that output is complete or error-free. Patrick remains responsible for editorial choices, but no representation is made that every error has been detected. The Site does not automatically label every passage according to which tools assisted the workflow.
Contact and unsolicited submissions
Copy link to section “Contact and unsolicited submissions”Email is available for ordinary correspondence. Do not send confidential, proprietary, export-controlled, illegally obtained, or sensitive personal information. Contacting Patrick does not create a confidential, fiduciary, attorney-client, employment, or consulting relationship, and there is no obligation to respond.
Unless Patrick agrees otherwise in writing before receiving it, unsolicited ideas, proposals, code, or other submissions are not treated as confidential. You represent that you have the right to send anything you submit and that doing so does not violate another person’s rights.
Privacy
Copy link to section “Privacy”The Privacy Policy explains the Site’s information practices and is incorporated here by reference where applicable.
Availability and changes
Copy link to section “Availability and changes”The Site may change, remove content, correct errors, suspend features, or stop operating without notice. Published URLs should be kept durable where practical, but uninterrupted availability is not promised.
These Terms may be updated as the Site changes. The effective date will identify the current version. Continued use after a change means the updated Terms apply from their effective date, subject to rights that cannot be waived.
Governing law and disputes
Copy link to section “Governing law and disputes”These Terms and any dispute arising from or relating to the Site are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Subject to any forum right that cannot lawfully be waived, legal proceedings must be brought in the Superior Court of California, County of Orange, or, when federal subject-matter jurisdiction exists, the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Each party consents to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and to venue in Orange County, California, to the extent permitted by law.
Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer protections, a non-waivable right to bring a claim in another forum, or any other right that cannot lawfully be limited. Before formal legal action, the parties are encouraged to attempt a good-faith informal resolution using the contact method below, where appropriate.
Severability and entire understanding
Copy link to section “Severability and entire understanding”If a provision is found unenforceable, it should be limited or removed only to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions should continue to apply. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the complete Site-level understanding about use of the public Site, except where a separate written agreement expressly applies.
